Raipur, November 20:Move over, national political stalwarts. The battle for the hustings in this tribal-dominated state is virtually centered around BJP chief minister Raman Singh and Congress leader and former chief minister Ajit Jogi.

A look at BJP posters, advertisements and other campaign material leaves little doubt that the saffron party is trying to retain Chhattisgarh by showcasing the achievements and positive image of Singh.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee manage only a rare appearance on some of the posters.

The issues being raised in the assembly elections are also local in nature as polling for the second phase is held on Thursday.

Though Congress has not declared its chief ministerial candidate, Ajit Jogi seems to be the front-runner for the post and he looms large in the Congress political campaign.

Though both have good backgrounds, with Jogi being a former IAS officer and Raman Singh a former Ayurvedic doctor, they possess completely contrasting personalities.

"Raman Singh is very docile and soft-spoken." Says Santosh Sharma, resident of Rajnandgaon, from where Raman is contesting assembly polls.

Free rice! 2008-12-09 12:10:09.589583+05:30

Victory is a reward for promising rice for re. 1 per kilo. During next election, it will have to be rice for free. Then the vegetables free and then everythig free. The question is, who is going to pay for these free things to get votes!

Well Its True upto some extant 2008-11-21 10:13:56.534187+05:30

Hey its true that it is most important game between Raman and Ajit Jogi.People have seen rise and fall of Mr.Jogi's govermanet and also seen Mr. Raman's goverment.Yet in Mr.Jogi's goverment Mr. Jogi was very powerful and fast he was effecent to resolve issues but missused powers and he saw his fall in next year otherwise he was a good chief minister and had apportunity to be atleast servive as a chief minister for 10 years i mean he can be next CM again.Raman goverment has done quite good but not son strong so lets see what happenes.
