The India Press Photo Awards instituted by The Ramnath Goenka Foundation are an initiative to identify, promote and reward excellence in photojournalism and documentary photography. In the centennial year of its founder, Ramnath Goenka, the Indian Express Group initiated the first ever awards of this stature with the India Press Photo Awards 04 hosted on 17th December 2004 in Mumbai.

Press photographers, photojournalists and documentary photographers throughout India are invited to participate in the Ramnath Goenka India Press Photo Awards 06. Selected from all entries, The Ramnath Goenka Picture of the Year 2006 will honour a photographer whose picture demonstrates an outstanding level of visual creativity and journalistic skill. The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh. The award winning photographs will be displayed at an exhibition in Mumbai, which will travel throughout the country.

With the credibility of the media challenged time and again, we still find brave men and women who continue to report events as they are. We salute their courage as we dedicate these Awards to them.
