CERC urges review of investor laws

The Consumer Education and Research Centre (CERC), Ahmedabad has contended that the existing laws were inadequate in protecting investors as they are penal and not restitutional in character. CERC managing trustee Manubhai Shah has suggested in his memorandum to the Dhanuka Committee has called for a review of diverse laws relating to securities in India.

Revised food product order gets law ministry assent

Union food processing secretary SS Boparai has said that a new food product order (FPO) would soon be declared. The Union law ministry has already approved the proposed amendments to it. The new order will provide requisite leverage to the food processing industry for improving efficiency and productivity to face the challenges of global competition.

Ninth plan accent on self-reliance: Dandavate

The Ninth plan gives emphasis on self-reliance to build a modern India that assures all round development, according to the planning commission deputy chairman Madhu Dandavate. The plan also gives more emphasis on distributing justice by taking ground realities, Dandavate said adding that the plan was drawn up after studying views and suggestions of various sections from the grass root level.
