Private competition could affect LIC's pension business

[Details] The opening up of the life insurance sector to private sector could cause a ``dent''' in the pension business of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) even though the undertaking could be a net gainer owing to greater awareness of the concept of insurance in the country.

Inflation rises marginally to 6.04 per cent

[Details] For the first time in ten weeks, rate of inflation rose marginally to 6.04% during the week ended May 10. The annual rate of increase in prices based on wholesale price index (WPI) rose by 0.06 percentage points to 6.04%, from 5.98% in the previous week. The index (provisional) for `all commodities' (base 1981-82=100) also moved up by 0.2% during the week to 322.8 as against 322.3.

Ministry confirms weed seeds in imported wheat

[Details] The Union agriculture ministry has stated that the inspection of imported wheat under the provisions of Plant, Fruits and Seeds Regulation Import Order (PFSRIO), 1989, have revealed the presence of some weed seeds. Such weed seeds remain integral part during the harvest of any crop produce. Therefore, it is not unusual to expect some weed seeds in bulk import of foodgrains as origin.
