NPAs should be cut to 5% by 1999-2000

[Details] The Tarapore panel has stated that the non performing assets (NPA) of the banking sector have to be brought down to 5%in 1999-2000 from 17.3% in 1995-96. Bankers feel that the NPA reduction target is achievable.

US to crack down on more Indian firms

[Details] Close on the heels of curbs on American exports to Bharat Electronics Ltd, the US is considering a crackdown on at least two more Indian firms for "supplying" components to New Delhi's ballistic missile and rocket programmes.
