Stick to the oil majors, says HSBC

Despite the relatively better performance on the bourses by the pure refiners such as Cochin Refineries Limited (CRL) and Madras Refineries Limited (MRL), securities analyst HSBC Batlival & Karani believe that investors would be better off if they stuck to the integrated players such as BPCL and HPCL.

Negative export growth baffles experts

The negative export growth in double digits in April this year has virtually shaken senior officials in the Union commerce ministry as well as the finance ministry. The exporting community has expressed serious doubts about achieving the $40 billion export target set for the 1997-98 fiscal.

Foreign funds will have edge in CAC regime

The first phase of capital account convertibility is expected to give a head start to foreign funds over their Indian counterparts. The Tarapore Committee has recommended that under phase I (1997-98), SEBI-registered investors, including mutual funds, can invest overseas with a ceiling of $500 million.
