SAIL fails to match minnows

When quakes spell doom for cottages, watch out, the village tower may totter, even collapse. Steel Authority of India Ltd's (SAIL) profitability has taken a 60% blow, almost as if to prove that the smaller fries were not kidding when in succession they appeared to wilt before what is being perceived as a terrible demand recession.

A problem of self-assessment

This is not an age of consensus. Everyone in India does not agree that K R Narayanan should be the country's President. Everyone in Janata Dal does not agree that Laloo Yadav should be the party's president.

Kulaks must corporatise

The Union agriculture ministry's decision not to accord industry status to agriculture has been prompted by considerations other than those of making farmers more professional and accountable. The reasons advanced by the minister in charge hardly reflect a positive approach.
