French, British keen to invest in Calcutta port

The Calcutta Port Trust (CPT) has excited investment interest among the French and the British. Officials from the French embassy and the British Deputy High Commission had talks with the chairman, H P Roy. Possibilities of bringing in equipment for use within the docks as well as navigational aids for the Hooghly river was also discussed.

New shipping policy to focus on private funds

A new shipping policy, with a special focus on attracting private investments, would be introduced by middle of next month. The high-level committee on shipping will submit its preliminary report later this month and the final report two weeks thereafter.

Century Gases & Petrochemicals, the leading private distributor of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), has announced a discount scheme to coincide with 50 years of Independence. Under the scheme new connections will be given at a payment of Rs 1,947 compared to the existing rate of Rs 2,875.
