Revenue intelligence investigation into exports under-invoicing

[Details] The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) is investigating a number of export houses, including some big names, suspecting largescale under-invoicing of imports. The customs authorities have detained import consignments of polymers aggregating 20,000 tonnes of several companies.

Reforms half-hearted, says Ramakrishna

[Details] Disinvestment Commission chairman GV Ramakrishna said that liberalisation measures taken up during the last six years in India were half-hearted and had not prepared the country to face the challenges of globalisation. He added that our efforts at accessing private investment, both Indian and foreign, in infrastructure have been less than successful.

Marginal fall in exports, imports in April, May

[Details] Exports as well as imports registered a marginal decline during April-May 1997. This was mainly on account of a 8.9 per cent decline in oil imports. According to trade data released by the commerce ministry, imports in the first two months of the current fiscal slipped 0.6% compared with the corresponding period last year.
