IDMA lashes out at WTO dispute panel's allegation against India

[Details] The Indian Drug Manufacturers' Association (IDMA) has lashed out at the recent World Trade Organisation (WTO) Dispute Settlement Panel's report which states that India has failed to discharge its obligations under certain articles of the Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). The WTO panel was acting on a US complaint against India on failure to notify measures taken for compliance of mail box provisions and exclusive marketing rights.

DGFT revises credit rate under DEPB scheme for plastic products

[Details] The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has revised the credit rates available under the Duty Entitlement Pass Book (DEPB) scheme for plastic products to 20%. The plastic items including High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Tarpauline, Polypropylene woven sacks and bags and HDPE woven fabrics were allowed credit rate of only 17% under the new DEPB scheme.

[Details] The Reserve Bank of India governor C Rangarajan has hinted that interest rates can be brought down further. "As the inflation rate remains at a reasonable low level and inflationary expectations are broken it should be possible to bring down the nominal interest rate," Rangarajan said.
