US auto maker plans micro car base in India
Our Corporate Bureau
New Delhi, Nov 8: An US-based auto manufacturer is considering setting up facilities to manufacture micro cars in India, global strategy and operations consulting firm AT Kearney said. AT Kearney principal Pavan Vohra said at a press conference here on Saturday that his firm had recently completed a feasibility study for this American company. Vohra added that the auto company, which he did not name, is upbeat on the findings of the study. The car would be targeted at the segment of the market between a scooter and the Maruti 800. The proposed car - a ``two-seater with back bench'' - would accommodate two adults and two children. At present, no car manufacturer is addressing the demand of that market segment between scooters and Maruti 800. AT Kearney felt that there is real demand for cars priced under Rs 2 lakh.
