Spic first-half sales up 45%

[Details] Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (Spic), the flagship company of the Rs 3,800-crore MA Chidambaram group, has registered a 45% increase in its turnover during the first half of 1997-98. The net profit of the company, however, improved marginally by about 3.79%.

Mahyco, Monsanto to jointly launch insect-protected cotton

[Details] The Indian subsidiary of the US herbicide and life sciences company -- Monsanto and Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company (Mahyco) have decided to launch new bollgard insect protected (BP) cotton in the country by the year 2000. The MM Biotech which is a 50:50 joint venture between Mahyco and Monsanto will take up this project. The BP cotton was developed by Monsanto and successfully launched in the US in 1996.

Vanlaxmi Agro launches Rs 10-crore cashew-earth, mango-earth

[Details] The Sindhudurg-based Vanlaxmi Agro Developers has launched cashew-earth bonds and mango-earth bonds worth Rs 10 crore to speed up the development of horticulture and tourism in this coastal district of Maharashtra. Vanalaxmi's decision coincides with Maharashtra government's move to develop Sindhudurg as a tourism district, neighbouring Ratnagiri as horticulture district and Raigad as industry district.
