Are incentives boosting exports?
Over the past few years the government offered a large number of incentives to 100% export-oriented units (EOUs) to boost exports. In the liberalised environment, however, the scheme appears to have outlived its usefulness. As these units undertake to export all the production, the government offered a number of special incentives which were generally perceived as one of great areas for investment.

An acute shortage of coarse grain is making the government's task of supplying them to the masses difficult under the public distribution system. The coarse grain forms the staple diet of the people living below the poverty line.
