Ministry sees 12.54 mt naphtha shortage by 2002

[Details] The Union ministry of petroleum and natural gas has projected a deficit of 12.54 million metric tonnes (MMT) of naphtha in the country by the year 2002. This conclusion was drawn from a survey conducted by the ministry. The survey portends that demand for naphtha by the year 2001-02 will be 24.34 MMT. The availability of naphtha at that time will, however, be only 11.95 MMT, thereby causing the projected deficit.

Iffco, Kribhco must return stakes held by government

[Details] The President of National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), B S Vishwanathan, has asserted that the two fertiliser giants Iffco and Kribhco should return the stakes held by the government in their organisation. He also averred that such a voluntary measure on the part of the government will be highly beneficial to the farmers cooperative in maintaining their autonomy.

Indian economy has acquired stability, says Rangarajan

[Details] Indian economy, with $26 billion of foreign exchange reserves and $4 million gold reserves, has acquired enough strength to broadbase and improve its financial system, outgoing governor of the Reserve Bank, C Rangarajan said. He further added that the steady liberalisation policy has seen the Indian economy effect an about-turn from the depressing scenario of 1990-91 where it had a mere $1 million in its foreign reserve kitty.
