Coffee Act amendment likely during Parliament session

[Details] An amendment to the Coffee Act, 1942 will be taken up during the winter session of Parliament starting today . One of the most important outcome of the enactment of the bill is that coffee board's role in marketing of the commodity will be totally eliminated henceforth.

Trade body to oppose 5% levy on transport operators

[Details] The Federation of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM) has decided not to abide by the Centre's directive to levy a 5% service tax on services rendered by transport operators. The tax came into force on November 16. The tax will not only add to the cost but will also have a cascading affect.

Seven percent growth GDP within reach, says Gujral

[Details] Prime minister Inder Kumar Gujral has reiterated that India will be able to achieve the targeted 7% growth in gross domestic product (GDP) during 1997-2002.
