[Details] The takeover of ITC Classic by the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) is part of the structural change and consolidation taking place in the non-banking financial sector. With an astounding 45,000 non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) -- 779 of them registered with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) -- a shakeout is inevitable.

Bureaucracy hampers Air India's quest for success

[Details] Recently, Air India had decided to raise Rs 150 crore debt to meet its working capital requirement. A re-tendering for the sale of a Boeing 747-200 aircraft is to be effected. Earlier tenders have been rejected because of the low bid price of $18.5 million. In all, the airline is planning to sell three aircraft -- which are more than 15 years old.
