Rupee slide: Hard times ahead
The virus of East-Asian currency crisis has reached India. The rupee tumbled to Rs 39.95 to a dollar and recovered marginally. A decline of 15 per cent in two weeks' time. However, there seems a sense of complacency in the declining value of the rupee.

Market crash and correlation
In October 1987 when markets world over crashed, we were happy that India was insulated. To the Indian markets, the Black Monday that saw markets collapse like dominoes was a non-event. However, as markets in South-East Asia crashed, we slowly realised that India has lost this insulation, and would like to attribute this to the fact that our markets are open to foreign investors.
