VSNL subsidiary to focus on Internet, video-conferencing and e-mail
Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) has identified Internet services, video conferencing, electronic commerce and electronic mail as the four main areas of focus for its proposed value-added services subsidiary. VSNL has also decided to appoint an international consultant to work out the modalities for setting up the subsidiary and has shortlisted Price Waterhouse and Andersen Consulting for the purpose.

Asian Hotels mulls Rs 100 cr debenture issue to fund plan
Asian Hotels Ltd (AHL) is considering a move to make a non-convertible debenture (NCD) issue worth Rs 100 crore. AHL plans to use the proceeds of the issue to part-finance its hotel projects in Mumbai and Calcutta.

Price Waterhouse, Coopers & Lybrand partners okay global merger plan
The merger between Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand has come a step closer with the partners of both the firms having cleared the merger by a majority vote. But the two firms will still need an approval from anti-trust bodies in the US and the UK before formalising their global merger.

BPL group kicks off restructuring
The BPL group has kicked off its restructuring exercise by deciding to bring its select secretarial staff from leading group companies under a single umbrella. BPL Refrigeration Ltd, an arm of BPL, is sending its staff from its corporate office to a location near the existing refrigerators manufacturing unit at Whitefield near Bangalore.
