Nomination filing begins in state:The process of filing nominations in Maharashtra has begun with the issue of notification by the governor, PC Alexander, for holding elections to the 48 parliamentary constituencies on Wednesday. The last date for filing nominations is February 4, scrutiny will be conducted on February 5 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 7.
`Need to improve economic scenario':
Public sector undertakings, provision of subsidy and poverty alleviation programmes are some of the important issues which will have to be addressed in order to improve the current economic scenario, said Maharashtra governor PC Alexander on Wednesday.
Pittie Agro sets up EoU:
Pittie Agro Ventures Ltd (PAVL) has set up a 100 per cent export-oriented unit floriculture project at Maval near Pune. The company will export roses to Europe, Japan, south-east Asia, Russia and the Middle East. The project has been set up at a cost of Rs 7 crore, with the promoters'contribution being about 50 per cent. The term loan has been granted by Sidbi and the Rupee Co-operative Bank.
Gandhi on Internet:
The Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal has taken up a Rs 20-lakh project to put Mahatma Gandhi's works, thoughts and photographs on the Internet.
Haj Committee camp:
The Pune District Haj Committee has organised a two-day `Haj tarbiyati camp' on February 7 and 8 at the Assembly Hall, Anglo Urdu High School Compound. The final instalment of payment by pilgrims going on the Haj pilgrimage in April 1998 should be paid by demand draft in favour of Haj Committee Mumbai before February 20.
Free medical camps:
Dhondumama Sathe Homoeopathic Medical College and Sanjeevan Hospital have jointly planned a year-long series of free medical camps. The first camp will be held on Thursday, January 29, at Sanjeevan Hospital.
