The auction in aid of the World Wide Fund for Nature held at New Delhi was a tryst with truth for many, especially for the manipulators in art. The auction was conducted with extreme propriety by Tom Craig of Sotheby's, who took no money for his services, and the prices reflected the true taste of the art market.
  International travel bug bites Puneites
The hoiday crowd is raring to go regardless of fare wars or recession. Travel operaters aver that Puneites are now global holiday-goers. There is an increase in the number of tourists to places like Singapore because it is a favourite shopping haunt. Shopping is obviously the aim, going by the destinations, with sight-seeing coming in a poor second.

Global garment fair in New Delhi from today
As part of its export promotional activities, the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is organising the India International Garment Fair in the capital from January 29-31. This will be the 20th in the series of fairs organised by-annually by the leading garment exporters associations.
Telco plans module for diploma-holders
Automobile major Telco has developed an innovative scheme for upgrading the employability of technical diploma holders. At a recent seminar on `Training the Trainers, Educating the Educators', organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Delhi, V K Verma, senior deputy general manager of Telco, stated in his presentation that industry needs to look at adding value to the education received by diploma holders in the country.

Edible-oil makers barred from making "slick" claims
Manufacturers and marketers of plain edible oils and fats have been barred from making tall claims of purity and anti-cholesterol properties while marketing their products. However, nutritional contents will be allowed to be made public. A new clause, 37D, will be introduced in the Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA) rules, 1955, which will be known as PFA (Amendment) Rules 1997.

French unemployed continue protests
Representatives of France's unemployed have vowed to continue the national movement that has rattled the Socialist-led government in recent weeks, and urged students and workers to join them in new nationwide demonstrations, reports The Financial Times. The government of French prime minister Lionel Jospin, has taken comfort in the fact that the movement, though garnering much publicity, has not so far spread to other groups.
