Strategy to exploit tourism potential under study

Our Bureau
New Delhi, Jan 29: The department of tourism was working on an aggressive strategy to exploit fully the Indian tourism potential wherein cultural heritage of the Indians would be adequately preserved.

Inaugurating the tourism exposition here on Thursday, secretary tourism, MP Bezbaruah said tourism is considered an important industry all over the world since it has important inputs in socio-ecomnomic development of the communities. Keeping this in mind, the government has decided to give very high priority to the sector.

He urged the travel and tourism industry to be more competitive to provide the best available facilities to not only foreign tourists but also domestic travellers as they are very choosy and specific in their demands.

The largest ever tourism exposition in India opened at the Pragati Maidan here to showcase the Indian tourism product under one roof, for both international visitors and domestic travellers.

More than 200 participants from different segments of the tourism and travelindustry, hotels, airlines, tour operators and state departments have set up booths at the sprawling exposition to give visitors a peep into the little known facets of Indian tourism.

Ten foreign countries are also participatiing in the the meet to project outbound tourism.

Director general, tourism, Ashok Pradhan said the exposition represented the unified face of the most vibrant and dynamic industrial sector.

The tourism secretary expressed the hope that the exposition would be a showcase of Indian tourism in its generic sense and would be an annual feature.
