  Motivation important in industry-education links
At a recent CII seminar, academicians and industry leaders not only discussed gaps in education-business links with interest, but also touched upon solutions -- some of them quite user-friendly. Initiation of a joint development of projects, where institutions and industry work together and combine the industry funds and institutional expertise.
  Electricity complaints call for prompt attention
Complaints about electricity services can't be simply switched off. The redressal procedure is as formal and routine as in the case of other services. A complaint may be dealt with by the consumer grievance cell of a state electricity board, state government electricity department, consumer disputes redressal agency (CDRA), or a court under the writ jurisdiction.

Education seminar focuses on cooperative learning
The focus in primary and secondary education will significantly shift towards more interactive and cooperative learning rather than the top-down instructional approach that is prevalent today. There will also be an increasing emphasis towards using modern methods of communication and interchange to impart a more integrated education.
Strategy to exploit tourism potential under study
The department of tourism was working on an aggressive strategy to fully exploit the Indian tourism potential wherein cultural heritage of the Indians would be adequately preserved. The secretary tourism, MP Bezbaruah asked the travel and tourism industry to be competitive to cater the best available facilities to both foreign and domestic travellers.

Vehicular traffic trebles on Indian roads in 10 years
The number of vehicles on Indian roads has almost trebled in the past 10 years, adding to the growing menace of air pollution, warns a study. The total number of registered motor vehicles in the country has increased from 11 million in 1986 to more than 30 million in 1995, of which about 3% is concentrated in 23 metropolitan cities.

Australian firm says it has cheap fix for Y2K bug
A small Australian computer software company Inforsoft said that it had developed an easy, cheap, do-it-yourself solution to the millennium bug problem. The company's Info 2000 programme was designed for the corporate sector and was available for about one-third of the cost of alternatives.
