Nalco pays Rs 90-crore dividend to government

The National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has paid a dividend of Rs 89.84 crore to the government for the year 1996-97. The cheque was presented to the secretary (mines) BB Tandon by Nalco chairman and managing director SN Johri, an official release said here on Tuesday.

A sum of Rs 13.25 crore is being disbursed to about 20,000 share holders of the company including employees and other institutions, the release said. The company is at present implementing its first phase of expansion of bauxite mines and alumina refinery at a cost of Rs 1,665 crore to be completed by 2001.

TCIL bags turnkey contract from Malawi

The state-owned Telecommunication Consultants India Ltd (TCIL) has bagged a $19-million (Rs 75 crore) turnkey contract from the Malawi Posts and Telecom Corporation for setting up an external telephone cable plant. The project, to be completed in two years, is being financed by the African Development Bank. TCIL has also won a Rs 6-crorecontract from the Mauritius Telecom for installation of 33,000 rural telephone lines.

British companies offer green technologies

Seven British firms have offered various environment related technologies including material recycling, contamination remediation services, waste collection, haulage and disposal, incineration of chemical wastes and renewable energy. A delegation led by experts from the British department of trade and industry made presentations at a seminar jointly organised by the Indian Merchants Chamber and the British Deputy High Commission at Mumbai on Wednesday.

Ajwa Fun World plans resort

Ajwa Fun World and Resort Ltd, which had set up a Rs 6-crore water park on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai national highway in 1993, plans to build a resort at an adjoining site. Company chairman and managing director Rajesh Jain said the resort would have 33 air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned cottages, a staking rink, swimming pool, banquet hall, STD, Fax and other facilities.

Five-dayleather fair to open today

The leather industry which earns foreign exchange of Rs 6,000 crore annually, has registered a slump for the past two years because of global recession, according to the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) chairman Yogesh Chandra. "We hope to overcome this phenomenon in the coming years", he said at a press conference on the eve of a five-day `India International Leather Fair', the 13th annual series, being organised by ITPO in Chennai. About 350 companies, including 100 from abroad, would participate in the fair.

Web magazine for software professionals launched

An on-line information technology careers web magazine, www.winjobs.com, for software professionals, was launched on Wednesday. The monthly magazine is a joint venture between India On-Line (IOL) and TMI Network. Publisher of the magazine Prabir Chatterjee said even though Internet was rapidly expanding in the country, content-wise there was no site for resident Indian professionals.

Institute forinfotech and management

The government has set up the Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management (IIITM) at Gwalior for providing education, training, consulting and research facilities in the field of information technology and management in an integrated manner. Set up by the ministry of human resource development, the institute will start a two-year post graduate diploma course in management and information technology from the academic year 1998.

Sundaresan is Maharashtra Telecom chief general manager

H Sundaresan has taken over as chief general manager of Maharashtra Telecom circle in the Department of Telecom from February 1. Sundaresan took over from CV Rajan, who had been transferred to New Delhi, a department release said on Tuesday. Prior to this assignment, he was working as principal general manager (operations) in the Maharashtra Telecom circle.

Ircon to build road-over-bridges on rail tracks

The public-sector Ircon International Ltd has signed a pact withthe Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and Jammu & Kashmir Bank to construct five road-over-bridges above rail tracks in Maharashtra. As per the agreement, the bank will provide a Rs 60-crore long-term loan for the project to be completed by Ircon in two years.
