TMI Network unveils maiden online infotech careers magazine

UNI
MUMBAI, Feb 4: The country's first on-line information-technology (IT) careers 'web-magazine ' was launched here on Wednesday.

The magazine is a joint venture between India's premier web designers and TMI Network, the leading recruitment and advertising specialists.

The magazine accessible at the http://www.Winjobs.Com site is dedicated to the resident-Indian software professional, a release said. Its publisher Prabir Chatterjee of India On-line said most companies were connected to the Internet and in all dynamic software companies, every desktop had internet access. The number of e-mail accounts like 'hotmail' in India reveals there are thousands -- about 25 times the number of actual Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) Internet connections -- who 'surf' the net regularly. Obviously, most of them are web-savvy software people. Chatterjee said the corporates were constantly on the lookout for experienced candidates, given the boom in the software industry and the huge demand for quality programmers.

Themagazine offers immediate access to the target-audience and even the response is immediate, on-line...at the click of a mouse. The on-line CGI form can be filled in and sent off immediately.

The winjobs will have various sections for accessibility of the subscriber. The magazine has "mirror", a section for skill evaluation, "cityscape", a section which provides information about possible relocation to other cities. Job-related grouses are on the "wailing wall". And technical questions can be solved with the help of experts in "trouble shorting". Among other sections, there is the "cross border" for people to keep in touch via the web. Soon, there will be chat-rooms also. The fun-and-leisure sections are many. For example, a specialist fortune column giving the surfer an accurate forecast of his work and job. There will be several interactive polls from the serious to the ridiculous, with instant results coming up on the screen, the release adds.

Fifteen Internet professionals have spent nearly six monthsto source out the information and design the 10 mb web-site. The web-site has been optimised for viewing using netscape 3.0 and above or, that is, 3.0 and above too. The average file size is below 30k, the release says.
