NEW DELHI, Feb 5: DAKS Simpson Ltd, Britain's 100 year old premium apparel manufacturing company, is planning to set up a manufacturing base in the country. The company is currently trying to establish its brand in the domestic market through retail outlets.Speaking at a press meet on Thursday, DAKS Simpson Group (retail division) managing director Don Ruffle, said the company is considering the plan and may set up a manufacturing base in Bangalore.
Ruffle said the company may tie-up with Tata Exports Ltd (TEL) for the manufacturing unit, in which DAKS would chip in with technical support.Significantly, TEL will be handling DAKS retail activities in the country. DAKS has already opened an outlet in Mumbai and two more were opened in the capital city on Thursday.
The outlets are situated at the Taj group of hotels in both the cities and would restrict its product range to men's wear.
On the company's target, Ruffle said in the first year DAKS is expecting to do business worth Rs 4 crore. Subsequentlyin the next year we will increase it to Rs 10 crore and Rs 17 crore, he added.
"We expect to have five per cent of the country's ready made garment market by the year 2000", Ruffle stated.Speaking on the occasion TEL executive director HH Malgham said the company promises to bring a good product in the country and DAKS is definitely one of them.
