Overall power output inches up by 7.7%The country has recorded the overall electricity generation during January this year at 37589 million units, the highest electricity generation during any single month in 1997-98. As per an official press release, the generation figure was 7.7 per cent more than the generation during the same period last year and that it was last month when the actual generation in the country exceeded the programmed generation.

Jet Airways revises flight timings: Jet Airways has announced revised flight timings for six flights in a new flight schedule effective from Saturday 7, 1998. The flights, all operated by new generation Boeing 737s, with changes in timings, are 9W 822 (Chennai-Delhi), 9W 741 (Delhi-Lucknow), 9W 742(Lucknow-Delhi), 9W 352 (Delhi-Mumbai), 9W 111 (Mumbai-Nagpur) and 9W 112 (Nagpur-Mumbai).All other flights will operate as per published timings.
Over 17,000 foreign tourists visit Goa:Goa continued to remain a popular tourist destination, attracting over 17,000 foreign tourists in January with as many as 64 flights being chartered from several countries across Europe. The state received around 4,000 more tourists this year as against the 13,379 tourists, who visited the state during the corresponding period last year. The visitors were mainly from the United Kingdom, Holland, Switzerland and Scandinavia, official sources said.
IJO to promote jute goods: International Jute Organisation, the Bangladesh based world apex body for all jute producing nations, has agreed to promote the diversified uses of jute goods in view of the shrinking traditional packaging market of the `golden fibre'. IJO executive director K M Rabbani said this while addressing the golden jubilee seminar of NationalInstitute for Research on Jute & Allied Fibres Technology, in Calcutta on Thursday. He added that although jute was losing its market to the synthetics industry, its environment-friendly nature cannot be overlooked. The golden fibre is an important cash crop in eastern India and Bangladesh.
