  Congress, Front remain ambivalent; Naidu still keeps BJP on tenterhooks
Uncertainty persisted over formation of the new government with Congress and the United Front dithering on the issue of staking a formal claim and the BJP anxiously waiting for Chandrababu Naidu to make his position clear The action is likely to gain some momentum on Friday with BJP convening a meeting with all its allies for preparation of a national agenda and the United Front core committee deciding to meet to take stock of the situation.
  Court allows DoT to process applications for Net service
The Delhi high court has allowed the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to process applications for appointment of private Internet-service providers (ISPs). The court, however, stipulated that DoT will not grant a final licence till next date of hearing.

Manohar Joshi may reshuffle cabinet before March 16
Describing it as a "change in portfolios rather than a cabinet re-shuffle," chief minister Manohar Joshi on Thursday said the "shuffle" would be effected before the state assembly meets for the budget session on March 16. He, however, denied reports that industries minister Leeladhar Dake and cultural affairs minister Pramod Navalkar were on the chopping block.
Jayalalitha may join centre if BJP comes to power
The AIADMK leader Jayalalitha is likely to join the government to be led by Atal Behari Vajpayee. BJP general secretary Venkaiah Naidu said that he had a meeting with her in Chennai and she had assured him to reconsider her decision after talks with Vajpayee on Sunday.

Oilseeds import issue to be taken up by next government
The issue of allowing import of oilseeds on an actual user condition will be taken up immediately by the new government, according to SM Acharya, joint secretary in the Union ministry of commmerce. Acharya added that the ministry was in favour of allowing import of oilseeds under OGL on par with the permission given for the import of edible oil.

Indonesia to back reforms process
Indonesia's President Suharto on Thursday reaffirmed his commitment to IMF reforms. Currency traders, however, indicated their dissatisfaction with the lack of progress on pulling Indonesia out of its worst economic crisis in decades.
