IMTEX `98 generates: Rs 145 crore business THE 10th IMTEX 98/Tooltech 98, which was organised by Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers Association in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has generated impressive business worth Rs 145 crore. The orders booked in the course of the event has been 1,450. The total number of enquiries generated was worth Rs 250 crore as against Rs 180 crore at IMTEX 95, which had 1,000 bookings, according to the sources.

Health sector to seek foreign aid: The health sector in the country is gearing up to invite foreign investments from Japan, Germany, the United States and Australia for technology upgradation and advanced facilities in hospitals, said Prem Aggarwal, honorary secretary of Indian Medical Association, the sources added.

Plea for budget-on-account: President of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations Ramu S Deora has urged the incoming government to immediately consider budget-on-account so that exporters' money, heldup with customs authorities under various heads, was released without further delay. These heads include duty drawback and credit rates under the Duty Entitlement Passbook scheme. In a recent statmenet, Deora said exporters, especially the medium and small scale ones, were facing a severe liquidity crunch and needed urgent succour.

Railways drive against ticketless travels: An intensified drive against ticketless travelling helped the Railways increase the window sales of tickets to Rs 326.78 crore in the first nine months of the current financial year ending December 1997. Fifteen crore more tickets were sold compared to last year, a Railway Board press note said. Earning from passenger traffic, accordingly, increased by Rs 650 crore which included a contribution of Rs 200 crore as a result of ticket checking activities alone.
