Darjeeling tea gardens not for tourists yet
Darjeeling tea gardens are unlikely to be opened to tourists any time soon despite the best efforts of the West Bengal government and the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council. The lease contracts between the tea garden owners and the state government do not provide for any tourism-related activity in the gardens.

Almost all open-end equity funds have brought down their entry and exit loads over the last one year. Effective from March 9, 1998, GIC Mutual Fund has brought down the entry load in GIC Fortune '94 from 6 per cent to 2 per cent. The fund does not carry any load on redemption.
Economy on the threshold of recession
Japan appears headed for its first recession in over two decades, judging by the data released on Friday, a prospect that is likely to strengthen calls for the government to take decisive steps to jump-start the economy. Japan's economy shrank 0.2 per cent in the October-December quarter from the previous quarter, prompting the government to admit that its growth target of 0.1 per cent for the fiscal year ending on March 31 would be hard to achieve.
