  Bajaj Auto sees marginal rise in turnover to Rs 3,500 crore
Bajaj Auto is likely to report a marginal growth in its turnover and net profit this fiscal. According to Vice president (Waluj) CP Tripathi, the company may clock a sales turnover of about Rs 3,500 crore as against Rs 3,400 crore registered last fiscal.
  Jaswant is Plan panel deputy-chairman
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaswant Singh, who lost the race for the post of Union finance minister, has been appointed deputy-chairman of the Planning Commission on 21st March, 1998. Singh was the Union finance minister in the short-lived BJP government in 1996 and was the frontrunner for the same post in the new government.

High banking service costs undo RBI efforts to control interest rates
The Reserve Bank of India governor Bimal Jalan has stated that the transaction costs for the banking services in the country are very high and even have a bearing on the formulation of the monetary policy in that it reduces the manoeuverability of the policy makers so far as interest rates are concerned.
Skindia GDR index increases 3.37% to 936.98 points
Dark clouds of uncertainty and instability dispersed with the formation of the BJP-led government at the centre. Reflecting the upbeat mood of the market, the Skindia GDR index closed at 936.98 points on March 19, registering a 3.37% jump over its previous week's close of 906.46 points.

Forex reserves up $371 million
The total foreign exchange reserves of the country increased by $371 million during the week ended March 13. Total foreign exchange reserves have gone up to $27.81 billion from $27.44 billion, according to the weekly statistical supplement released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Berger Paints plans marketing thrust in South India
Berger Paints is planning a marketing thrust in south India and is likely to face stiff competition from market leader Asian Paints in the decorative segment. Despite recessionary trends in the economy, Berger is expecting a turnover exceeding Rs 350 crore in the current fiscal.
