  CMC, CRIS in pact to set up freight-operation information system
CMC and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) have entered into a tie-up to introduce a freight operations information system (FOIS) for the Indian railways. The system will enable the railways to become more competitive by improving efficiencies and reducing operational costs.
  Control Data of US likely to dilute stake in local venture
The US-based $350-million Control Data Systems Inc plans to dilute its stake in Manipal Control Data Electronic Commerce Ltd (MCD-ECOM). This is to facilitate further flow of funds from the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) for expansion plans. The US-based firm has a 27% equity stake in the joint venture while the Manipal group has 28% and the rest is with ICICI and non-resident Indians (NRIs).

Roots Industries to make and sell Bosch horns
The Coimbatore-based Roots Industries (RIL), the manufacturers of `Roots' brand horn, will be manufacturing and marketing Bosch horns in India. The strategic alliance between the ISO-9001 Indian company and the $50 billion Bosch group would see 10,000 Bosch branded horns being manufactured a month at the new 6-crore plant of RIL at Thoppampatti, Coimbatore.
Kandla Port chalks out long-term strategy for Trust
The Kandla Port Trust (KPT) has worked out a long-term strategy to help it attain a pre-eminent position among ports in the Asia-pacific region. One more dry cargo berth and a tanker berth are under construction, while four more general cargo berths and an oil berth with private participation is proposed to be built to handle an anticipated huge cargo traffic at Kandla in 1997-98.

Bhushan group plans steel plants in state, WB
Bhushan Group having a large presence in Chandigarh plans to set up steel plants in Maharashtra and West Bengal at a capital cost of Rs 800 crores. The group has acquired land at Haldia in West Bengal and is negotiating for the same near Mumbai in Maharashtra for the two plants of steel cold rolling and galvanising.
