India gets $130m aid from global environment body
India has received a $130-million aid from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), an international environmental financial mechanism. The Indian contribution to the GEF was $13 million. The GEF's apex body comprising 161 members will meet for the first time in New Delhi from April 1.
I-T collections in Mumbai dip 1.5% to Rs 11,681 crore
The total income-tax collections from Mumbai have registered a marginal dip of around 1.5% from Rs 11,854 crore to Rs 11,681 crore as on March 25, 1998. The figure does not include revenue from the Voluntary Disclosure of Income Scheme (VDIS). Mumbai, which contributes around 40 per cent of the total revenue collections in the country, is unlikely to meet its target for fiscal 1997-98.
"Lack of political will delays National Information Infrastructure project"
Inability to resolve inter-departmental disputes and a lack of political will are the main causes delaying the National Information Infrastructure (NII) project, Public Sector Enterprises Board chairman N Vittal said. Emphasising the need to create a national awareness of NII, Vittal expressed confidence that the project, if implemented properly, would help address priority issues like education, health and employment.
Maharashtra government forced to release Rs 8 crore to spinning mills
The ruling Shiv Sena-BJP government, in the face of a possible contempt action by the Mumbai high court, on Saturday was forced to release about Rs 8 crore to five cooperative spinning mills promoted by the Congress leaders towards the government contribution in the share capital of these mills.
No-objection certificate condition puts projects in Tamil Nadu on hold
Scores of projects in Tamil Nadu (TN) have been put on hold owing to bureaucratic delays and promoters' inability to get a no-objection certificate (NOC). But it is not for non-compliance with environmental norms that the projects are unable to get the NOC. It is reliably learnt that over 50 projects in the state, valued at hundreds of crores of rupees and covering industries ranging from mines and power to textiles and cement, are stuck.
Intel to offer more sops to solution partners
In an effort to grab a larger share of the Indian networking market, Intel Corporation, the world's largest manufacturer of microprocessors, has drawn up plans to offer more sops to its solution partners. As part of the initiative, the company has decided to offer two units of its entire range of networking products, which includes a range of hubs, switches, adaptors and routers, free of cost every year to its 15 solution partners in the country.
