  Firms put off debt plans as gilts flood market
The Centre's massive borrowing programme in the new fiscal is leading to a crowding-out effect in the debt market. Corporates, which were planning to kick off their borrowing programmes in the first month of the new financial year, are defering their plans as a combination of central and state government papers are raising over Rs 11,000 crore in April.
  Batlivala & Karani to recast equities unit
Batlivala & Karani, which recently snapped ties with the HSBC group in its broking joint venture, will carve out a fresh corporate structure for its equities business. The structure, to take effect from July 1, will comprise a holding company called B&K Resources and the three companies under its fold would be B&K Equity, B&K Research and B&K Advisory.

Bluechip Fund shows 57% growth in '97-98
Bluechip Fund from Kothari Pioneer Mutual Fund (KPMF) has recorded a 57% growth for the fiscal 1997-98 against 15.8% rise in the benchmark BSE Sensex. Of the six schemes managed by KPMF, five have outperform ed the Sensex during the fiscal. The only scheme which has underperformed the benchmark index is Prima Fund.
Sensex sheds 65 points onprofit-selling by speculators
The sensitive index plunged sharply by over 65 points on the Mumbai Stock Exchange yesterday following heavy bull liquidation and lack of support from institutional investors.

Plantation association flays Sebi move on collective investment schemes
The Association of Agri Plantation Companies of India (AAPCI) has termed the SEBI stand on the operations of the existing collective investment schemes as "unjustified". Majority of the plantation companies are facing rough weather following investors demanding the money which they have invested in agri-business.
