Pets are passe; get a tamagotchi instead
Care to have a pet dinosaur which hatches out of an egg in your pint-sized suburban apartment? No, it is not a crazy idea, but a concept which is the latest craze world over. Tamagotchi or "egg watch", is a gizmo that "bears" virtual pets. Conceived in Japan, the concept is fast catching up in other parts of the world too, including India.
Executive learning: More of a global fever

Artists playing second fiddle to designers
The importance of the difference between art to think with and art to live with came home to me at the first show of the Vis-a-vis opening at Khirki, in their new exhibiting space. It is a little sad that a number of our artists are so keen to exhibit that they showed more or less the same works they were showing here at Sridharani a few days ago. It would appear that artists in their hurry to be market friendly are beginning to play second fiddle to designers whose work is of necessity more conventional and much cheaper.
Opportunities are fragile, handle with care
Russia is a cool place, with enormous business opportunities, but not without risks. A case in point is the Stockholm-based forestry and packaging group. This Swedish company has been a pioneer in moving into former Soviet bloc markets. Since its privatisation in 1994, Assi has built or acquired production facilities in a string of East European states, and established two plants in Russia. But, while overall, the East European expansion has been a resounding success, Assi's taste of the Russian market is quite bittersweet.
