Plastic exporters irked over 8% special duty
The eight per cent additional customs duty on imports, announced in the budget, will make some of the existing export-assistance schemes `inoperative', according to the plastic exporting community. They feel that the levy would force exporters to move away from the export markets to the more lucrative domestic markets.
Tea traders demand excise withdrawal, threaten strike
The Federation of Tea Traders Associations of Maharashtra has demanded the withdrawal of the eight per cent excise duty levied on the packaged tea in the Union budget. The federation has decided not to purchase tea from the tea gardens and auction centres if the levy is not withdrawn immediately.
Opposition asks Bakht to resign
Opposition parties on Tuesday demanded resignation of Union industry minister Sikander Bakht. The opposition have asked for the ministers resignation for "the clandestine and corrupt" deal with Suzuki on the Maruti issue and sought an explanation from the government for "unholy haste" in signing the agreement.
