Govt puts two key demands of telecom operators on ice
The Union government has put the two key demands of telecom operators -- moratorium on payment of licence fees by two years and extension of the life of a telecom licence from 10 to 20 years -- in cold storage. The department of telecommunications (DoT) has said that the finance ministry is "not willing to provide a commitment" on the demand for a two-year moratorium on payment of licence fees.
Industrial growth rises by 6.3 per cent
Industrial growth has registered a 6.3% increase for the latest month-ending April, against that of the corresponding month in the previous year. As per the quick estimates of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with the base 1993-94 at 100, released on Tuesday by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO), the general index for the latest month-ending April stands at 140.1.
Imports under EPCG exempt from 4% special customs duty
The Union government has exempted imports under export promotion schemes from 4% special additional customs duty. According to a notification, the exemption would be applicable to imports made under advance licensing scheme, the duty entitlement passbook scheme, export promotion capital goods scheme (both under concessional duty and zero duty) and the passbook scheme.
