Japanese sanctions -- Who loses more
Ironically, while Japan is reeling under severe economic recession after its bubble economy has burst, the country could afford to put economic sanctions on India. Japanese antagonism against the nuclear test is well perceived. No country has suffered as much as Japan did. But how could Japan support a discriminatory global nuclear policy, the fall out of which is not different.
Accepting blame for being victimised
The Labour government in Britain is carrying forward the ideology elaborated by its nominally Conservative predecessors. This involves compelling the victims of the market economy, of globalisation, of development, of worldwide capitalism, to assume responsibility for their own misfortunes. The ideology underlying this project seeks to eliminate the consciousness of all social and economic determinants upon our lives.
Tackling telecom
The government must stop looking at the telecom industry as a rickety bridge across its yawning fiscal deficit gap, and look upon it as the all-important highway to a new, information-linked, prosperous India. For this, it is essential that it stop treating the industry as a source of one-shot payoffs, and look at the benefits of opening up a much longer-term cash flow line through revenue sharing.
