Ispat-Hughes venture in troubled waters
Ispat group's foray into basic telecom services in Karnataka and Maharashtra has run into serious trouble. According to a note sent by DoT to the cabinet secretary, the alternative gameplan evolved by the Ispat group and its US partner, Hughes Electronics, to kick-start operations in the Karnataka basic telecom circle has fallen flat following conditions imposed recently by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and the refusal of the promoters to meet them.
Enron mulls hydel sector entry
Enron International is considering a foray into the hydel power sector in India. Enron CEO Rebecca Mark has reportedly evinced keen interest in exploring the opportunities existing in the hydel sector. Though no specific plans have been worked out by Enron in this direction, a feasibility study evaluating the prospects of entering the sector may soon be initiated by the company.
Eveready net profit leapfrogs 227% to Rs 45 crore on higher exports
Eveready Industries India Ltd on Wednesday reported a 227% increase in net profit to Rs 45.03 crore for 1997-98, against Rs 13.78 crore in 1996-97. The board of directors recommended a final dividend of Rs 4 per share, up from the Rs 3 paid for the previous fiscal.
