A report gone kaput
The Kapur committee is the umpteenth one set up to study the credit problems of the small scale sector. These problems are well known, although every once in a while it is thought fit to give superannuated bureaucrats a sinecure in the form of a chairmanship of yet another committee. There is nothing the Kapur committee says which is new.
Inept manoeuvres
The change of guard at the Industrial Development Bank of India has had all the ingredients of high drama, with much pulling of strings, last-minute manoeuvres and nail-biting tension. What the drama highlighted, however, was the utter casualness with which the finance ministry views top-level appointments in the public sector.
Hindustan Oil Exploration moves pay off
The news that Hindustan Oil Exploration (HOEC) is one of the companies that has been awarded another block for exploration of oil should come as good news for its shareholders. Despite having abandoned one well recently, the success of its operations in the PY-3 oilfield (Cauvery offshore block) has enabled the company to start earning a return on its investments.
