TOKYO, July 10: The Japanese unit of Chrysler Corp said on Friday it had signed an agreement to sell its vehicles at an independent Toyota dealership in Hakodate, on Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido.The Hakodate Toyopet dealership was the first Toyota dealer to sign a regional, or "main", dealer contract with Chrysler, and the dealership would control sales and service on the southern half of Hokkaido.
Chrysler Japan Sales Ltd has worked to rebuild a dealership network shaken by a break-up with Honda Motor Co Ltd last December.
"We are pleased to announce the establishment of Hakodate Chrysler, our first main dealer in Hokkaido. Chrysler Japan Sales will continue to focus on expanding overall sales activities and developing its dealer network in Japan," said Chrysler Japan Sales Ltd president Robert Bowen in a statement.
Hakodate Toyopet will set up Hakodate Chrysler Co Ltd and plans to open an exclusive showroom and after-sale service centre in September, a Chrysler Japan Salesspokeswoman said. Chrysler Japan Sales gave no details of its sales target for the new dealership.
