Despite good arrivals gram gains; bullion weak

NEW DELHI, Aug 3: Despite increased inflow, gram, on the Delhi grains and pulses market recorded gains while wheat prices remained subdued on Monday.

Daily arrival of gram from Rajasthan and Haryana went upto 55-60 lorries from 42-43 lorries, but in view of alround demand in gram dal coupled with paucity of rain in Rajasthan, gram firmed up by Rs 20-25 a quintal.

Masoor and its dal showed an easy tendency as demand at higher rates was reported dull. The Ministry of Commerce has not yet released export quota of pulses.

Despite release of export quota of wheat desi and coarse grains, there was no impact on the market as quota was very limited. Daily arrival of wheat from UP, Haryana and Rajasthan was about 15-20,000 bags, but due to slack demand from millers as well as despatchers, wheat dara slipped by Rs 10 at Rs 605-615 a quintal. Non-basmati rice prices held steady on firm Mumbai advices.

Linseed, castor oils rise

Linseed, castor oils rise

Palmolein in Malaysia dipped by $ 7.5 to $ 675 a tonne and on profit-takingselling by the stockists at higher rates, mustard and sunflower oils in the local market dipped by Rs 20-50 a quintal. Palmolein in Mumbai was down by Rs 60 at Rs 3580 and in Delhi, it slumped by Rs 30 at Rs 3970 a quintal.

Groundnut oil in Mumbai was down by Rs 50 at Rs 5130 a quintal. On consistent inflow of new crop oil from Raipur, among industrial oils, Mahuwa oil tumbled down by Rs 50 a quintal while on firm Kanpur and Gujarat advices, linseed and castor oils recorded a sharp spurt of Rs 50 a quintal.

Palmfatty acid flared up by Rs 50 a quintal due to fall in import.

Mumbai: Groundnut oil extended losses on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castotseed and its oil on the other hand climbed up further on lack of offerings coupled with steady buying by shippers.

Groundnut oil closed Rs 5 lower at Rs 513 per 10 kg amidst demand resistance. Higher prices attracted profit-taking by stockists. Fear of strigent action to curb price rise by government ahead of festivals also weakened the marketsentiment considerably.

Imported palm oil edged down by Rs 2 at Rs 358 per 10 kg on fresh arrivals. In the global market prices fell by $5 at $675 per tonne for nearby delivery. Forward deliveries were quoted lower at $662.50/642.50 it was learnt. September delivery was quoted lower at Rs 353 per 10 kg.

Castor oil on the other hand moved up by Rs 3 at Rs 406/418 per 10 kg on continued buying by shippers on steady overseas enquiries. Castorseed shot up by Rs 15 at Rs 1,847/1,853 per quintal in sympathy. In Gujarat region daily average arrivals of castorseed had dropped to 4000/5000 bags it was learnt.

In the futures section castorseed September delivery lifted from Rs 1683 to Rs 1702 per quintal on steady bull buying but volume was at a low ebb, floor sources said. Trading in the castorseed December delivery will be commenced from Thursday, according to floor sources.

In the Gujarat region castorseed ready rose by Rs 10 at Rs 365 per 20 kg. Castor oil lifted up by Rs 5 at Rs 395 per 10 kg. it waslearnt.

Silver coins unchanged

In lack-lustre trading, both the precious metals on the local bullion market revealed an easy tendency.

There was no arrival of imported silver on Saturday because of weekly holiday of custom officials and silver in Hong-Kong on Monday held steady at its previous close of Rs 544 cents an ounce, consequently, spot silver .999 fineness declined by Rs 35 at Rs 8140 a kg. due to weak local as well as upcountry demand.

Silver weekly delivery also lost Rs 15 at Rs 8220 a kg. due to lack of speculative support. Silver delivery prices by the operators were fixed low at Rs 8200 a kg.

Silver coins remained unchanged at Rs 10,400-10,600 per 100 pieces.In the expectations of increased inflow of imported gold on Monday coupled with slack demand from jewellers, gold biscuit and standard mint gold slipped by Rs 10 each at Rs 4225 and Rs 4240 per 10 gram, respectively. Gold sovereign remained unaltered at Rs 3475-3500 per 8 gram.Mumbai: Gold and silver prices moved in oppositedirection on the bullion market here today. Silver .999 recovered by Rs 20 at Rs 8,215 per kg. In the ready section silver .916 bounced back by Rs 60 at Rs 8,105 per kg in sympathy. Industrial and seasonal buyers turned active at the lower level while eased supplies pushed silver prices upward, dealers said. The white metal was down by Rs 140 per kg during last week. In the global market silver was subdued at $5.41/5.42 per ounce.

Standard gold finished Rs 5 lower at Rs 4,205 per kg. Gold .22 carat fell by same margin at Rs 3,890 per kg. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) however closed steady at Rs 49,300 per piece on stray seasonal support after a sharp setback of Rs 900 per piece recorded last week. In the global market gold was subdued at $286.65 per ounce.

Twill goes up

Jute goods were steady following advices from Calcutta where raw jute was marked up by Rs 25 at Rs 800 per quintal. B. Twill and hessians in markets here were firm and in twines good demand was witnessed from Punjab,Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.

Mentha oil remains subdued

Titanium dioxide RC-822 firmed up by Rs 6 at Rs 144 per kg. on expectations of Rs 8-10 per kg. sales price hike by the manufacturers. As the import declined, TR-92 and Dupont titanium dioxide moved up by Rs 5-7 at Rs 150 and Rs 155 per kg. whereas titanium dioxide TTK, K. brand and China remained unchanged.

Mentha oil, menthol flake, bold and DMO continued downward march and lost Rs 7-10 at Rs 305, Rs 410, Rs 450 and Rs 95 per kg. on poor demand from local and upcountry markets. Other chemicals remained unchanged.

Nickel plate edges down

Non-ferrous metals lacked trading and the prices eased further. Nickel plate edged down by Rs 2-3 at Rs 255-327 per kg. due to poor demand from electroplating units and the local market had more than 100 tonnes stock.Tin ingot, copper utensil, mixed scrap and copper wire scrap also moved lower by Re. one per kg. on sluggish buying by the millers.

Other non-ferrous metals were unchanged in thintrading.
