Time is not yet ripe for futures trading
Experts say futures trading by itself does not provide hedging. The Economist, London, has said that the problem is to distinguish between hedging and speculation.
A private matter
Reports suggest the department of company affairs (DCA) has proposed that companies buying back their shares should seek government approval. Companies will, reportedly, be asked to provide details of the sources of funds and the modus operandi of buying back shares.
Right decision
MTNL's decision to bid for operating basic telephone services in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal is the right one. Operating basic services is MTNL's area of core competence, an area in which it has an enormous amount of experience.
