New Delhi, Aug 5: The directors of Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) decided to maintain a deafening silence, amidst intense speculation, over the outcome of the "routine" board meeting on Wednesday.
At the end of the over eight-hour-long meeting, managing director RSSLN Bhaskarudu said "no definite date of the launch of the diesel Zen has been decided". Refusing to give any further details, he said "we have decided not to divulge what happened in the board meeting". However, the board did not talk about any new appointments or fix a definite date for the roll out of the diesel Zen, he added.
Sources said that crucial items on the agenda including introduction of new models and the role of the proposed sub-committees was discussed. Maruti's obsessive secrecy led to intense speculation over what transpired at the board meeting. It seemed that a clampdown of sorts was imposed by MUL's partner, Suzuki Motor Corporation.
