New Delhi, Aug 6: The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) and the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Phdcci) have called for a long-term integrated export management strategy. Reacting to the package to boost exports unveiled on Wednesday by commerce minister R K Hegde, Phdcci president OP Vaish, said here on Thursday that the measures failed to meet various essential requirements to boost exports.
``It does not outline any specific plans to improve the export infrastructure, particularly the port handling facilities for exports and for expeditious movement of export cargo,'' said Vaish.
``Also, some of the customs rules and procedures have not been simplified and continue to inhibit free movement of goods. It is imperative that the computerisation of these rules and procedures is expedited,'' he added. Assocham president L Lakshman said, ``a cohesive strategy has been necessitated in view of the widening trade deficit in the face of uncertainties of foreign capital and debt inflow.''
Calling for a series of ``bold and creative measures'', Lakshman pointed out that the commerce ministry needs to promote private export marketing firms to help exporters.
