The complex houses an advanced microwave materials centre and a demonstration centre for diamond-like nanocomposite coatings (Dylyn).

The advanced microwave materials centre has been set up to manufacture a wide range of microwave ferrites and dielectric materials. The technology for the products has been sourced from Hiltek Materials Ltd of the UK, which was formed by acquiring the microwave materials technology business from GEC-Plessey Semiconductors, UK.

Company sources pointed out that among their clients were HL Malhotra, Tata BP Solar, Titan Industries, Datar Switchgear, Cosmo Ferrites and potential clients included Reliance Industries, Mico, HMT, TVS Suzuki, HAL and Tata Bearings.

Microwave ferrites are used in microwave components like isolators, circulators, dielectric resonators for cellular telephones,phase shifter for phased-array radars, low-noise blocks for direct broadcast through satellites, patch antennas for global positioning systems, wireless local networking of computers, and automobile anti-collision navigating systems, among other applications.

A number of very high purity materials like alumina, ferric oxide and zirconia are sourced from some of the ACC plants. The company has plans for forward integration into the manufacture of microwave components like isolators, coaxial resonators, dielectric resonators, filters etc.

The second project, involving the Dylyn coating technology acquired from the US-based Advanced Refractory Technologies (ART) will offer advanced surface engineering solutions to industrial applications in automobile, aerospace, electronics, optics, energy and bio-medical areas.
