Kelkar takes lead to push core projects
In a bid to step up investment activity in the forthcoming busy season, the finance ministry has began the exercise of reviewing the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects both in the public and private sector. The exercise has been initiated by new finance secretary Vijay Kelkar.
Falling I-T gross spurs stricter collection norms
Concerned by the fall in collection during 1997-98, the Income Tax (I-T) department is in the process of setting up squads of tax recovery officers in an effort to bring `recalcitrant' tax payees to book. These recovery officers will be armed with wide ranging powers of arrest, seizure, attachment or even sale of property.
Four arrangers bid for MSEB's Rs 1200-crore power plant
The race is on between the IDBI, IL&FS, Kotak Mahindra and ICICI to arrange lease finance for MSEB's 420 MW Kaperkheda power plant. The four companies have already submitted their bid proposals and MSEB is expected to finalise the name shortly.
