Chemical port to go on stream next year
A chemical Port underconstruction on India's western coast will go on stream by October 1999, a top Port official said on Monday. "The first phase of the project will be completed by the middle of next year and we will start operations immediately after the monsoon season," CS Patel, managing director of the Gujarat Chemical Port Terminal Company Limited (GCPTCL) told Reuters.
Bengal invites Itochu to develop industrial centres
The West Bengal government has invited Itochu Corporation of Japan to develop industrial growth centres in the state. Bidyut Ganguly, the West Bengal minister for commerce and industries, told members of the Merchants' Chamber of Commerce here on Monday that he held preliminary discussions with the representatives of Itochu during the day. The details of the project are yet to be finalised.
Manch hits out at Vajpayee for sidestepping Swadeshi agenda
The Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM) has flayed prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for his recent move to constitute economic and trade advisory councils. Charging the government with staffing these councils with "persons who are hostile to the very idea of Swadeshi," the Manch has also expressed concern over the recent top-level changes in the bureaucracy.
