Maruti board meet to discuss new models

PTI
New Delhi, Sept 7: Maruti Udyog will hold its annual general meeting here today, preceded by a board meeting where the introduction of new car models in India will be discussed.

Being held close on the heels of the August 26 board meet in Japan, the meeting is expected to give a final shape to the company's already-announced decision to introduce a new model, sources said.

At the board meeting, the government will be represented by managing director (MD) RSSLN Bhaskarudu, joint managing director Jagdish Khattar, director (finance) AR Halasyam and director (engineering) Kumar.

Joint secretary Pradip Kumar and additional secretary AV Singh of the heavy industries will also represent the government at the meeting. Suzuki Motor Corporation is being represented by Maruti chairman Y Saito, T Kobayashi and K Senga, sources added.

Annual accounts of the Rs 8,400-crore car major will be passed at the AGM, to be attended by Maruti shareholders--the centre and Suzuki Motor.

For the first time in its history, the car major held its board meeting outside the country at the Suzuki Motor's headquarters on August 26 in an apparent bid to show off the newly-found unity between the two partners, who were engaged in a bitter war for over a year over the appointment of Bhaskarudu as the MD.
