Centre mulls steps to boost marine sector
The ministry of commerce has proposed a number of steps for promoting exports of Indian marine products. In its medium term export strategy, it has stated that money from the critical balancing investment fund will be given for setting up necessary infrastructure facilities.

37 foreign banks underplay sticky loans, provisioning: Reserve Bank
The group of 37 foreign banks operating in India had underestimated their non-performing assets (NPAs) by Rs 87.55 crore and provisioning by Rs 79.76 crore during 1996-97, a Reserve Bank of India internal study has revealed.

Service-tax plan on rating firms to take effect soon
The government has decided to enforce service tax on architects, interior decorators, credit rating agencies, market research security agencies, mechanised slaughter houses, underwriters, practising chartered accountants, cost accountants and company secretaries from October 16.
