EU slaps countervailing duty on local steel bars
The country has lost an anti-subsidy case against stainless steel bright-bar exports in the European Union. The EU anti-subsidy directorate imposed definitive countervailing duties on stainless steel bright bars, originating in India on Saturday, responding to charges brought by a club of European steel producers.
RBI accords autonomy to banks to strike realty deals
In yet another step towards granting banks autonomy, the Reserve Bank of India has allowed them freedom in acquiring premises on a lease or rental basis for their employees or for official purposes. The powers that have been delegated to banks include hiring of premises, rentals payable, deposit on rented premises and loans to owners of premises.
Petrol, diesel to cost more in Maharashtra
Petrol and diesel will be dearer from Wednesday in Maharashtra as the state government has hiked the sales tax to generate an additional revenue of Rs 180 crore annually. The sales tax on both the fuels, which was 21 per cent, would now be 23 per cent and 25 per cent on diesel and petrol respectively.
